Le resvératrol (3,5,4'-trihydroxy-trans-stilbène) est un polyphénol et une phytoalexine produits naturellement par plusieurs plantes lorsqu'ils sont attaqués par des agents pathogènes tels que des bactéries ou des champignons. Le resvératrol est actuellement un sujet de nombreuses études animales et humaines sur ses effets. Les effets du resvératrol sur la durée de vie de nombreux organismes modèles restent controversés, avec des effets incertains sur les mouches des fruits, les vers de nématodes et les poissons de courte durée. Dans les expériences de souris et de rat, anti-cancéreuses, anti-inflammatoires, hypo-sucrées et autres effets cardiovasculaires bénéfiques du resvératrol ont été signalés. La plupart de ces résultats n'ont pas encore été reproduits chez l'homme. Dans le seul essai humain positif, des doses extrêmement élevées (3–5 g) de resvératrol dans une formulation propriétaire ont été nécessaires pour abaisser considérablement la glycémie. Malgré la presse grand public alléguant les effets anti-âge du resvératrol, il y a peu de base scientifique présente pour l'application de ces revendications aux mammifères (voir la section d'extension de vie ci-dessous).
Le resvératrol se trouve dans la peau des raisins rouges et est un constituant du vin rouge, mais apparemment pas dans suffisamment [la citation nécessaire] pour expliquer le paradoxe français. Le resvératrol a également été produit par synthèse chimique ou par synthèse biotechnologique (micro-organismes conçues métaboliques) et est vendu comme un supplément nutritionnel dérivé principalement de la renouée japonaise.

Introduction |
Resveratrol (3,5,4'-trihydroxy-trans-stilbene) is a polyphenol and phytoalexin produced naturally by several plants when under attack by pathogens such as bacteria or fungi. Resveratrol is currently a topic of numerous animal and human studies into its effects. The effects of resveratrol on the lifespan of many model organisms remain controversial, with uncertain effects in fruit flies, nematode worms, and short-lived fish. In mouse and rat experiments, anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, blood-sugar-lowering and other beneficial cardiovascular effects of resveratrol have been reported. Most of these results have yet to be replicated in humans. In the only positive human trial, extremely high doses (3–5 g) of resveratrol in a proprietary formulation have been necessary to significantly lower blood sugar. Despite mainstream press alleging resveratrol's anti-aging effects, there is little present scientific basis for the application of these claims to mammals (see Life-Extension section below). Resveratrol is found in the skin of red grapes and is a constituent of red wine, but apparently not in sufficient[citation needed] amounts to explain the French Paradox. Resveratrol has also been produced by chemical synthesis or by biotechnological synthesis (metabolic engineered microorganisms) and is sold as a nutritional supplement derived primarily from Japanese knotweed. |
